“Nikki” – 3yo Thoroughbred Filly (RRP 2020 Eligible): $2000
“Nikki’s Prize” is a 16hh+, 3yo thoroughbred off the track looking for a second career. She appears to be the hunter type, or may enjoy competitive or recreational trail, fox hunting, or (with more time) become a fabulous lesson horse. YES, even as a young horse that last raced 8/9/19, she is easy enough to handle and ride that an amateur or experienced older teen could advance her training. She remains Retired Racehorse Project 2020/2021 Makeover eligible with only (1) ride off the track at the current time. Her retraining efforts are being focused on groundwork in hopes that her new partner may be interested in this eligibility.
Her first ride off the track went so well…that we trotted a course of cross poles with no previous jumping experience. Nikki stands well at the mounting block, offered no vices, and was willing in every direction. Additionally, she stands statue-still for the farrier and vet, ground-ties to bathe, cross-ties, clips, and hops in the trailer with no fuss. No prep needed to ride or work, although her lunging needs practice if you wish to continue doing so. She’s an average keeper and doesn’t require extensive feed regimens. She is moving sound and happy barefoot on all surfaces and has no known vet issues, but a PPE is welcome at buyer’s expense. She was retired from racing due to lack of success on the track and has loving owners who wish to see her succeed in a second career rather than continue to race her.
Price to increase regularly as she gains more experience. Shipping arrangements available with strong buyer references. Nikki is a barn favorite with staff, but Petrichor is a stepping stone into a second career with “her” person. All Petrichor horses are UTD on farrier, seasonal vaccinations, worming/fecal egg tested, and have current Coggins. “Nala” – 9yo Percheron/Thoroughbred Mare: $2500
Nala is a 16.3hh 9yo PerchTBx with a huge variety of experiences under her belt: she has been used as a children’s walk-trot horse, a lesson horse, jumped some cross poles, been trail ridden around the farm by beginners, and most recently ponied racehorses at Prairie Meadows during the race meet in August — she’ll even go to the gates! English or western? Both! Nala would make a lovely addition to your barn as a fox hunter, lower-level dressage or hunter, or trail horse, and can quite happily handle riders of all sizes. Ride this one in a halter and bareback down the road with a drink in hand if you like.
She bathes, ties, hops in the trailer willingly, stands for the vet and farrier, and goes on a hot walker just like the thoroughbreds. The perks? She stays fat on air and is as shiny as a copper penny, and she’s never been noticeably in heat. Cold climate? No need for a blanket with this girl. Her gaits are like riding on a comfortable sofa, and she has a surprising amount of “go” when the right rider asks, and with a little more fitness is a horse that can go for hours. She has typical draft feet and does need attention to the pancake shape they have a tendency to take if not trimmed regularly, but she’s quite happy and sound barefoot with regular trimmings.
Also, Nala was intended as the owner’s personal foxhunting and trail horse, but as farm owners do…she has instead had some pasture time. Thus, she has been ridden only a few times since August, and sadly, the right thing to do is to sell her to a partner who will really enjoy her company — she loves to work. Nala’s is a bit green when it comes to arena sports: steering, leg aids, and bending all need some refresher time, and thus I don’t recommend her as a children’s or beginner’s horse right away (but it wouldn’t take her long to get back into the swing of that with a refresher course!).
All Petrichor horses are UTD on farrier, seasonal vaccinations, worming/fecal egg tested, and have current Coggins. She also has a current piroplasmosis test suitable for racetrack ponies.
